About This Site

What this is

This site documents the public record on a proposed $99 million general-obligation bond for a new Johnson County, Iowa jail and sheriff's office, placed on the November 3, 2026 ballot. Its purpose is accountability journalism: surface what the County has published, what the underlying records actually show, where figures are contradicted by other official documents, and where the public record has gaps.

Every claim on this site is sourced to a specific document. Every source document is identified, and where possible linked or available for download. Where data conflicts between sources, both figures are shown with their provenance.

What this is not

This is not a campaign site. It does not advocate a yes or no vote on the bond. Most observers agree the 1981 jail is physically inadequate. The question this site addresses is narrower: whether the public record supports the specific dollar ask, and whether the data the County has published is consistent with its own underlying sources.

This site does not represent any political party, advocacy organization, or campaign committee.

Who made it

For questions about sourcing or methodology, see the Methodology page. To suggest a correction, open a records request and note the specific claim.

Corrections policy

If a factual error is identified — a misquoted figure, a wrong date, an incorrect source attribution — it will be corrected promptly and noted in the methodology page with the date of correction. Disputed interpretations are different from factual errors and will be handled as such.
